The GTHO’s was named after the legendary Australian Muscle car – the Falcon.

 

 

 

 

 

Band Name: The GTHO’s.

Members’ Names: Peter Towers, Lloyd Burton, David Scarlett, Michael McHatten, John Walker.

How long have you been playing together? Two years.

How did the band start? Mick and Peter were starting a band and got Dave Lloyd and John in. We clicked.

John: Not sure. I was told by Ron Unicomb to turn up one evening, and nobody has asked me to leave.

What style of music do you play? Solid Pub Rock, preferably Australian.

Where does the name come from? The legendary Australian muscle car – the Falcon.

Got any gigs in July? Having a break … plenty from then until Christmas.

Full name: John Walker.

Time spent living in the Manning- Great Lakes: Pretty much all my life.

What do you enjoy most about living in this area? What is there not to enjoy? Friends, family, waves, sense of community.

Profession/day job? Legal Practitioner. Principal of Walker Legal and Conveyancing Taree.

Double life/position in the band: Guitar, Musical Director.

What do you love about playing in the band? Giving people who see us a good time.

Do you ever wish you could quit your day job and be a full-time muso? No. I’d rather be a full time mud crab fisherman.

Favourite words to live by: Honesty, integrity, respect, and the question “What would Michael Peterson do?”

Time spent living in the Manning- Great Lakes: Whole life.

What do you enjoy most about living in this area? Close to beaches; friendly people.

Profession/day job? Panel Beater – Proprietor of Towers Smash Repairs.

Double life/position in the band: Drummer and Musical Director.

What do you love about playing in the band? Releases me from the stress of work and daily grind.

Do you ever wish you could quit your day job and be a full-time muso? Sometimes.

Favourite words to live by: Live by the sword; die by the sword.

Full name: Lloyd Burton.

Time spent living in the Manning- Great Lakes: 10 years.

What do you enjoy most about living in this area? After moving here from Wollongong, I’ve made great friends, had more time for my family, enjoyed a more relaxed lifestyle; it’s become my home.

Profession/day job? Gardener.

Double life/position in the band: Singer, Musical Director.

What do you love about playing in the band? It’s a great outlet for the young man that resides in my slightly weathered body. I can be foolish for a few hours, and we should all do that from time to time.

Do you ever wish you could quit your day job and be a full-time muso? No.

Favourite words to live by: FAMILY, LOVE, FRIENDS, MUSIC, RUM.

Full name: Michael McHattan.

Time spent living in the Manning- Great Lakes: I moved to Old Bar 22 years ago. I came to visit my parents, who retired here and fell in love with the area.

What do you enjoy most about living in this area? The best about the area is the relaxed life style; plus you can do so many different things here.

Profession/day job? During my working hours I work for Office Data Systems Taree. There, I hold the position of Service Manager.

Double life/position in the band: Within the GT-HO’s, I am the bass player; plus I also look after the PA system + Musical Director.

What do you love about playing in the band? The best thing about playing in the band is that you are surrounded by good mates who enjoy the same thing you do.

Do you ever wish you could quit your day job and be a full-time muso? Over the years I have had the experience being a full-time musician. I have played in Sydney through the ‘80s in various bands, plus I taught at Camelot Music Taree for 12 years as music teacher – also playing with Gully Road, who were based at Camelot.

Favourite words to live by: Achieve what you can by doing the best you can.

Full name: Dave Scarlett.

Time spent living in the Manning- Great Lakes: 18 years.

What do you enjoy most about living in this area? The people I have got to know through my job, the fishing, comparative lack of war, famine and pestilence.

Profession/day job? NBN television news cameraman.

Double life/position in the band: Guitarist/tallest member with most hair.

What do you love about playing in the band? Cheaper mid life crisis than buying a Porsche.

Do you ever wish you could quit your day job & be a full-time muso? Only if I could be 20 again, or a least successful enough to have roadies.
