Tania Mckone divides her time between her gorgeous farm and her role as an insurance broker. as a reformed city slicker, tania loves her life.
> Full name: Tania McKone.
> Time spent living in the Manning:
Officially moved in July 2009.
> What brought you to the area?
My partner Warren is from the area, and we decided to settle here as it has so much to offer and complemented both our lifestyles.
> Where were you before that?
Gold Coast for 5 years. Prior to that, Sydney.
> What do you enjoy most about living in this area?
Being able to live the country lifestyle but yet be only 25 minutes to some of the most beautiful beaches and Wallis Lake. We even don’t mind the drive up to Nowendoc and spending the occasional weekend there.
I’m a general insurance broker for Australian Insurance Solutions.
My job as an insurance broker is to obtain relevant information about a client’s risk and take that information to the insurance market. We look for insurers in Australia who we know have an appetite to write that type of risk. We can also tap into the London market, which is usual for high risk industries. I was fortunate enough in a previous job to work over in London.
> Describe your home and work environment:
Home is peaceful and tranquil. Work is busy and challenging. See how they complement each other?
> How do you spend the day?
Each day is different. Some start off by putting on a suit, jumping in the car and driving to the airport to visit clients in Queensland. Other days I may be doing risk surveys and talking with local businesses about their insurance requirements. Other mornings, I may be up early feeding the calves and horses. I’m never bored.
> Hobbies and interests?
I have a love for anything to do with the water so am looking forward to summer arriving. I play netball at Wingham, basketball at Taree and am currently enjoying volunteering at the YMCA Forster with the Midnight Basketball program.
> Struggles and highlights of the job:
There are no struggles, because I enjoy what I do.
> Why would you not change your current circumstances for the world?
To be able to live and work in such an area, have the best of the country and coastal lifestyle, why would you?
Do you feel you live a double life?
Absolutely! I sit on an 89 acre farm with the typical farm animals, yet have clientele ranging from ASX listed companies, national companies and local businesses. It is amazing what you can do with a laptop and mobile phone these days!
> Life motto:
You work to live, not live to work.
> Thank you Tania.
