Award winning Business woman, sole trader and young mother linda dawson tells us about her multiple roles since starting her own busines
> Full Name: Linda Dawson.
> Time spent living in the Manning: Most of my life. Have lived here since I was 2.
> Profession: Photographer.
> Hobbies: I love swimming and jogging. BBQs and camping on the weekends.
> How would you describe the photography world?
There has been a huge shift from the traditional ‘posed’ photos to much more candid and fun moments. Finding a balance between the two is very important. You have to position people in a way that makes them look great, but not make them feel stiff and uncomfortable, so that their personality can really show.
> Describe your role as successful businesswoman/photographer and mother?
I am very lucky that these 2 roles are ones that I love. My role as a photographer is about capturing memories for people to treasure, to see people in their best light and make them look and feel great.
My role as a Mum is about helping these little people grow up and be the best that they can be. Both certainly have their challenges, but the rewards are just countless.
> Why would you not change your current circumstances for the world?
I love the life I have. I have my girls and just love to watch them grow up and learn so much. They are full of energy and mischief!
I love having my photography business, I love a challenge, anything to really make me work towards something and improve.
Life is definitely a juggle, there’s no doubt about that, but I like it like that. I’d get bored otherwise.
> Describe your typical day?
There is no such thing as a typical day! There really isn’t. I’ll describe today. Went to a business breakfast at 7am. Finished there and went straight to a preschool for photos there. Back to the office to work on wedding photos. Clients in to view photos from their baby shoot in the afternoon. A portrait shoot in the afternoon, wedding clients coming to look at their photos in the evening. Then home, dinner and then some more work at home. I forget what it’s like to sit down and watch TV at night!
> Do you ever feel like you live a double life?
Maybe not a double life, but just one that has many facets to it. And that’s the way I like it.
> Favourite moments?
As a Mum, laying in bed having a cuddle with my kids in the morning. Nothing beats that. Having my girls has been the most wonderful thing in my life. As a photographer, I feel privileged to share in so many people’s special times, like weddings and photographing their new babies. That’s pretty special, and makes me feel great about what I do.
> Life Motto:
Don’t worry if it all seems uphill at the moment; the view from the top may be breathtaking.
> Thank you Linda.
