endota is an indigenous word for ‘beautiful’, and that is just how you feel after a visit to the new endota day spa at Diamond Beach. Focus talks to spa director Avalyn Jackson about her newest venture.

> Tell us about your history with enota and what brought you and the spa to Diamond Beach?

Geoff and I have worked for endota business development for two years. In that time we have grown the endota business across Australia. We always wanted to become business owners, so when we were approached by the directors of ‘Diamond Beach North’ to put an endota spa in the Australis Diamond Beach Resort, we jumped at it.

Geoff came up from Sydney and looked at the resort and what it had to offer and was excited at the prospect. We have always loved the Great Lakes and Manning Valley, so to have the opportunity to become involved in this venture was a chance to have life balance. We packed up the family and moved to Diamond Beach three weeks before the spa opened. We feel we are living the dream in Diamond Beach!

> What is the philosophy behind endota spas?

endota is an indigenous word for ‘beautiful’, and the endota logo represents the malachite stone which aids emotional healing. endota spa originated from the Mornington Peninsular, where old school friends Melanie Gleeson and Belinda Fraser met at a mate’s BBQ and decided to set up a chain of day spas with a focus on wellness and an organic look and feel that would give the client affordable luxury.

Mel worked in one of the first day spas in Melbourne and Belinda was a real estate agent. They worked in their day job and at night wrote the procedure and operations manuals that every endota uses today. After 9 years, endota spa is now the no. 1 day spa franchise, with 40+ spas across Australia. It is such a great story, and I love sharing it with people I meet …

> Tell us about the organic range of treatment and retail products.

endota launched their own range of organic skin and body products about 2 years ago. Most of endota’s products are certified organic and include ingredients from the Australian bush to complement the endota philosophy – products like kakadu plum, lilly pilly, bush honey, desert lime and native mint.

1% of endota organic product sales is donated to ‘Bush Heritage Australia’, an organisation that purchases land across Australia to protect the plant and wildlife so as to keep our environment protected from chemicals and pollution.

> Being at Australis Resort, you obviously cater for wedding groups. Tell us about the fabulous double treatment room and what you offer.

Australis Diamond Beach Resort has become the prime wedding and conference venue for couples and their guests. Boasting 70 stunning chic beachside villas, beach houses and apartments, two resort pools, kids’ club, tennis court, restaurant and now an endota spa.

endota partners with Australis Resort to help complete the wedding experience for their guests. Our ‘spa-tacular bride’ packages offer stunning wedding rituals in our double treatment room for the bride and groom and their wedding party. We also offer a fabulous range of mineral makeup, stress relief with our remedial massages and facials and much more.

Hen’s parties in the spa are a hit, with express facials, massages, manicures or pedicures … then polish off an antipasto platter and a glass of champagne in the relaxation lounge. Lots of fun and laughter!

> The atmosphere at endota diamond beach is very relaxing and welcoming. What have you included to make it so special?

endota spa prides itself on doing everything right to create the most wonderful spa experience. It’s the love, care and the little things like burning the essential oil of the day in every room. Our oils are ‘Breathe’, ‘Clarity’, ‘Perspective’, ‘Dream”, ‘Calm‘, and ‘Spirit’. We also offer an endota organic herbal tea of the day, which is waiting in our exquisite white tea set on the skin bar. We do not like to rush our clients, so after each treatment our therapist leads the client out to the relaxation lounge, where they can ask questions about their special needs.

Each of the four treatments rooms has the endota furnishings, and a unique calming, organic look that welcomes both men and women. Not a frangipani or fake flower to be seen!

Our double treatment room is our special treat for couples, mother and daughter, or girlfriends. We sometimes have 3 treatment beds in there for the ‘girls’ day out’. With candlelit geisha tub, underfloor heating and a massive ceiling, it is a perfect way to totally unwind and enjoy the endota experience.

> You also have great support from your staff. Introduce them and their skills to us …

Our staff are absolutely amazing and have come from far and wide, just like us.

Alana is our head therapist and had just completed a season at endota huski in Falls Creek when I approached her with our vision for Diamond Beach. She comes to us very well qualified and is a superb therapist, specialising in endota organic and Dermalogica facials.

Cacey is beautiful country girl from Tamworth. She joined us with lots of experience and a passion for the spa industry. Cacey embraced the endota training and is a fabulous asset to our team. Some people say, “How can someone so little be so strong?”

Matt is a multi skilled therapist who has worked nationally and has run day spas with his wife Tracy in QLD & WA. Matt is an amazing therapeutic remedial massage therapist specialising in reiki. He has a long list of followers already!

Ian has come to us from his own remedial massage therapy business in Sydney. Recently relocating to the Great Lakes, he is now an important part of our team. It has been great to have the mix of male and female staff to keep a balance. We all have a lot of fun at endota!

Our latest local discovery is Jorgie. She is young girl, but mature beyond her years. She is Dermalogica trained and will begin endota training this month. Welcome aboard Jorgie!

> What’s in store for endota?

endota spa Diamond Beach is only four months old, but we feel that we have been here for ages. The locals are coming in droves. Sometimes it’s just to see what all the fuss is about. When they step inside they immediately fall in love with the true day spa experience. We give them a tour of our spa, a cup of herbal tea and hand them a spa menu plus one of our calendars, which has over $500 worth of savings and offers to be redeemed at our spa or any endota across Australia.

Our endota gift vouchers have proved to be a winner, offering treats from our extensive spa menu. Men have no worries about coming in to purchase a gift voucher for their partners.

The future is very exciting, as we are now looking to open endota Forster in September. This endota will include a micro-zone chair to perform 20 minutes express treatments. endota Forster will be great for holiday makers and locals who want a quick facial or eye and lip treatment, plus everything else endota has to offer.

We love the endota philosophy of ‘down to earth heaven’. We love their organic skin and body products and we love dishing out ‘everyone’s a local’ service as we spread organic health and wellness to the people of ‘The Great Lakes and Manning Valley.

> Thank you Avalyn, and good luck with the spa!
